Being a complete novice to electric flight and outrunner motors, what motor should I choose for a planned model - a 1922 Farman biplane of 200sq inches wing area in total (20" span x 5" chord)and of light construction? (A litle bit like an SE5A): I build light and carefully.

I find the numbering and variations of motor bewqildering. THe aircraft will have a largish slow-turning propeller and will be for leisure and very mild aerobatics (loops etc).

Any advice in this minefield would be very welcome.

I've been flying models since 1959 from Mills .75 to Oliver Tigers in combat wings. Laterly I've been flying mainly scale Nieuport17 / Fokker eindekker types with .40 engines, but now want a quiet life and relaxation with a small electric biplanemodel of about 2022 - 24" span.

Many thanks in hopeful anticipation

Peter, we recommend the <a href="http://www.rctoys.com/rc-products-catalog/RC-HELICOPTERS-MINI-HELI.html" rel="nofollow">Mini Heli Infrared Helicopters</a>. The Mini Helis are simple to fly and a great way to get into RC helicopters. They have proportional throttle and steering to teach your 8 yr old not to just mash the controls but to learn precision controls. These Mini Helis fly slowly forwards around the room and are very stable. They're also safe if you accidentally crash into walls, the roof, plants etc. Just remember to cut the throttle when you crash so you don't burn out the motors or collect dust and hair in the rotors.

This incredible innovation indeed, has endless applications. This system was merely a dream in the minds of Sci Fi authors not more than a decade ago. Impressive!
