The Lil’ Draganflyer Plus is the evolution of the original Lil’ Draganflyer. Now featuring remotely controlled lights and five optional remotely controlled accessories! These accessories can be interchanged and include a Camera, Missile Launcher, Water Cannon, Hook and Basket, and Bubble Blower.

The Camera accessory package can be purchased separately and records images and video to a micro SD card. Video recording is toggled by the top left controller hat button, and pictures are triggered by the bottom right controller button. A micro SD card and USB card reader are included with the optional Camera accessory package.

The Missile Launcher accessory package can be purchased separately and holds six safe plastic missiles. Individual missile firing is triggered by the top left controller hat button, and simultaneous firing of all six missiles is triggered by the bottom right controller button. Twelve missiles are included with the optional Missile Launcher accessory package. Additional sets of spare missiles can be purchased separately.

The Water Cannon accessory package can be purchased separately and fires a stream of water when pressing the accessory button on the controller. A water filling tool is included with the optional Water Cannon accessory package.

The Hook and Basket accessory package can be purchased separately and raises or lowers a hook on the end of a line. One controller button will raise the line, and the other will lower it. A basket which can be caught with the hook is included with the optional Hook & Basket accessory package.

The Bubble Blower accessory package can be purchased separately and fires a stream of bubbles when pressing the accessory button on the controller. A bottle of bubble solution and a filling tool is included with the optional Bubble Blower accessory package.

Announcing the Draganflyer X4 Helicopter: a Brand New, Ultra Portable, VTOL UAV

We are pleased to announce the release of our latest UAV helicopter, the Draganflyer X4. Several hundred hours of research and development went into its design, bringing about a sleek, sophisticated UAV. The Draganflyer X4 features much of the same technology as the Draganflyer X6, but is available at a much lower cost. Designed for commercial, government, and military applications, the Draganflyer X4 provides affordable aerial photography and videography.

Diverging from our larger 6 rotor design, the Draganflyer X4 features the same quad rotor design used by our older helicopters. Four brushless motors independently drive four carbon fiber rotor blades, all controlled and monitored  by an advanced flight computer.

The flight computer uses SteadyFlight technology to process the inputs of seven individual sensors, including:

  • A barometric pressure sensor
  • Three accelerometers
  • Three gyroscopes

The flight computer reads sensor outputs and precisely determines the motor outputs required to keep the helicopter flying straight and level. If selected by the pilot, the barometric pressure sensor is used by the helicopter to maintain altitude. Properly trimmed and balanced, the helicopter will hold its position in the air allowing you to get excellent aerial photographs and video.

Four different cameras have been customized to work with our UAV, including:

  • A 12.1 MP digital still and video camera
  • A micro color video camera
  • low-light black and white video camera
  • A FLIR (Forward Looking Infra Red) video camera

All of these cameras transmit wireless video via a 5.8 GHz transmitter built into the mount. Wireless video can be received using either the handheld controller (which includes its own flat patch video antenna) or the optional base station. Video glasses plug directly into the handheld transmitter, allowing you to see what the helicopter is seeing and get perfectly aimed aerial photographs and video. The optional base station is compatible with any modern PC running Windows and features three standard RCA output jacks. This allows you to use your own recording equipment with the cameras or even re-transmit the video stream if needed.

Because all wireless communication is subject to interference, all of our cameras now feature a built-in DVR that records a pristine, interference-free copy of your aerial video to an SD memory card. After you finish flying, plug the SD memory card into your computer and edit the video using the software of your choice. Each camera also features a custom designed mount with a remote tilt feature (adjustable via the handheld controller). Designed to give you the best quality video possible, each camera mount features balanced, oil-filled shock absorbers. The shock absorbers keep the recorded video free from vibration, guaranteeing that you get the best possible results.

The Draganflyer X4 UAV features an innovative case system that makes transporting the helicopter easier than ever. The entire Draganflyer X4 helicopter presses neatly into its pre-cut slot in the case. Each part and accessory fits into molded high-density foam inserts for safekeeping during transport. The transport case features a dual layer design with flight accessories in the top layer and the base station in the bottom layer. A patented, load-bearing system clips on to the transport case allowing it to be worn like a backpack, and transported just as easily. Built from flexible Cordura™ nylon, the load-bearing system is securely attached using Fastex™ hardware and adjustable carry straps.

Recording Incredible Aerial Video Footage Using A Draganflyer Electric RC Helicopter

Draganflyer RC HelicoptersDraganflyer RC helicopters are not only extremely fun rc aircraft, they are also capable of filming incredible aerial video footage from angles nearly impossible to achieve otherwise. With three video camera equipped Draganflyer R/C helicopter models on the market it is easy to choose the one that fits your budget and your needs. All of these Draganflyer models use 2.4GHz wireless video transmission. The three models are the Draganflyer V-Ti with Eyecam, the Draganflyer V-Ti Pro, and the Draganflyer SAVS.

The Technology Behind Capturing Wireless Video

The Draganflyers use an onboard camera with a 2.4 Gigahertz broadcasting transmitter. A ground based receiver converts the wireless video signal to a standard composite signal. Each successive Draganflyer model uses a higher resolution camera, and improved wireless receiver than the previous one. The Draganflyer SAVS even uses a diversity video receiver with dual patch antennas. (These are the two white square signal receivers mounted on the receiver base station case). These enable the Draganflyer SAVS to receive signals from the transmitter that have followed different paths. The Draganflyer SAVS diversity receiver collects both of the signals and utilizes the strongest one, switching between the two for optimum signal quality.

Capturing & Recording the Wireless Video

Since all Draganflyer rc helicopter wireless video receivers output composite video through a standard RCA plug (1/8” or 3.5mm), you can connect it to almost any video recorder or display device. If you only need to view the video, the receiver can be connected to a television. To record the video signal, simply connect it to your VCR or camcorder. If you would like to record the video for professional or commercial applications, a digital recording format is ideal. The video can be edited and converted to DVD or other popular formats. A good recording format is mini-DV, which is used by many camcorders. This stores digital information on a magnetic tape. Once recorded, the video can be transferred to a computer (via firewire) and is in a digital format which completely eliminates any quality loss caused by copying. Most mini-DV devices are small in size (perfect to store in your SAVS receiver case), and have a viewing screen for watching the live feed.

Attaching The Correct Rotor Blade To Each Arm Of Your Draganflyer RC Helicopter

Draganflyer RC Helicopter Rotor BladesOur Draganflyer RC Helicopters are quad rotor coaxial design. Not all the rotor blades spin in the same direction. This is why your Draganflyer rotor blades have markings “A” and “B”. The coaxial rotor design makes the Draganflyer extremely stable and easy to fly. Draganflyer V-ti and Draganflyer V-ti Pro RC helicopters come with a single solid rotor blade on each of the helis ‘arms’. The Draganflyer SAVS RC Helicopter comes with 2-piece folding rotor blades. Two of the motors spin counterclockwise (A) and the other two spin clockwise (B). All Draganflyer rotor blades are designated as either “A” or “B” and can be confirmed as so by checking between the mounting holes and the blade on the rotor. The “A” rotors will be used for the Front and Back, where as the “B” rotors will be used for the Left and Right arm. You can confirm you have the right rotors on the right arms by verifying the rotors marked “A” are spinning counterclockwise and the rotors marked “B” are spinning clockwise. If you have the rotor blades on the wrong arms the Draganflyer RC helicopter will not fly and will crash.

Attaching the rotors is easy. Simply use our Nylon rotor screws or Nylon Rotor Thumbscrews. The Nylon rotor screws securely attach the rotor blades to the Draganflyer main gear on each arm of the helicopter.

Does the Draganflyer SAVS RC Helicopter Have The Capability of Taking Still Images As Well

Draganflyer SAVS Still Video Picture ExampleMany people ask if the Draganflyer SAVS RC Helicopter can take still digital photos. The answer is yes, but the Draganflyer SAVS is intended primarily for recording and viewing a live aerial video feed, not taking still pictures. The quality of the still images can be defined as approximately 0.5 Megapixels or 710 x 480 pixels. Still images can easily be extracted from the video by means of any video editing program and you most likely already have a video editing program on your home PC. Pretty much every Windows XP computer comes with Windows Movie Maker and every Mac these days comes with iMovie. Both of these free video editing tools are very simple to use and both have a feature to capture individual frames to still images. Here is a still picture we grabbed from a Draganflyer SAVS video feed. This technique can also be used with video captured from your Draganflyer V Ti with Eyecam or your Draganflyer V Ti Pro.

How to Troubleshoot Problems With Your Draganflyer RC Helicopter’s Radio Receiver RX

First, make sure the Draganflyer battery is fully charged, and that the transmitter battery is fully charged. Check that the transmitter antenna is fully tightened and that the wire circuit board antenna on the Draganflyer RC helicopter is not loose.

Check if the transmitter crystal is plugged in all the way (this would be on the front of the transmitter in the bottom corner, or on the back in the top middle). Inspect the receiver module on the Draganflyer main circuit board. This is the part that is on the side above the arming button. The pins on this part should be plugged in all the way, so that none of the metal on the pins is exposed.

When the Draganflyer receives radio signals properly, before pressing the arming button, the red LED should blink fast when the throttle is at max, and slow when the throttle is at the lowest setting.
