Eagle Tree Systems has just released version 4 of their popular Altitude MicroSensor. This new altimeter features a 1 foot vertical resolution and is able to function at up to 20,000 feet. Just like previous versions of the Altitude MicroSensor the version 4 model can connect directly to any of the Eagle Tree data loggers. This MicroSensor also features a built in 8 segment LED display and will read back the maximum altitude attained during each flight even when not plugged in to a data logger. You can daisy-chain this altimeter with other Eagle Tree MicroSensors when it is used with one of the Eagle Tree data loggers.

Many electric RC enthusiasts fly small indoor models that use 1 cell lipo batteries. These 1 cell batteries are usually charged with simple multi port chargers that come with ready to fly and bind and fly RC planes and helicopters. Although these simple chargers do the job, they don’t support features such as displaying cell voltage and selecting the charge rate. Using the Common Sense RC Micro-6 charging adapter, you can charge up to 6 of these micro batteries at a time using your existing computer charger / discharger / cycler.

The Micro-6 charging adapter works by connecting 6 batteries at a time in parallel. Charging is still done using a 1 cell battery setting, but the charging rate can be increased by a factor of the number of batteries you’re charging. Here’s how to use the Micro-6 charging adapter with any typical computerized lipo charger:

• Select the 1 cell lipo charge mode.
• Ensure that all the micro batteries you are charging are at roughly the same charge state.
• Plug the batteries and the Micro-6 charging adapter into your computerized charger, ensuring you follow the correct polarity.
• Charge at the rate you would usually charge a single 1 cell lipo of a given capacity, times the number of batteries that you are charging. For example, if you typically charge a 1 cell 100 mAh lipo at 2C (.2 Amps), 6 of them would be charged at a rate of 1.2 Amps.

You can discharge batteries following the same procedure, just make sure to select the right discharge rate. A good rule to remember is that multiple batteries wired in parallel act as a single larger battery at the same voltage. When charging 6 1 cell 100 mAh batteries in parallel, you would use the same settings as when charging a 1 cell 600 mAh lipo.

A note about balancing: charging cells in parallel won’t keep the voltage in each cell the same. This is why it is important to start parallel charges with the voltage in each cell approximately the same, to ensure that no cell gets overcharged. A good technique would be to store your micro 1 cell lipo batteries at about a 50% charge (3.8 volts), then charge them all at once before you want to go flying using the Micro-6 charging adapter. You can then fly the batteries to your speed controller’s low voltage cutoff and charge them all together again.

Using the Micro 6 Cell charging adapter, you can use your existing computer chargers and equipment with 1 cell batteries. When done properly, charging in parallel makes battery maintenance and charging simple and efficient. Update your micro models with the Micro-6 adapter today!

Hacker Brushless Motors has released a new upgrade for their popular A50-16S, updating the motor to version 2. This new brushless motor features the same performance specifications as its predecessor, but with several design improvements:

• A shorter can design, allowing the use of shorter standoffs for mounting which allows for more flexibility in choosing cowlings and mounting positions
• An integrated cooling fan, which replaces the removable on found in V1 series motors. This modification has reduced the weight of the motor by 50 grams.
• The front bearing has been removed, which reduces weight and increases the overall mechanical efficiency of the motor.
• Backwards compatibility with the V1 motors. With the exception of the shorter standoffs, the A50-14S-V2 is a drop-in replacement for its predecessor. Electrical specifications remain the same, only the physical characteristics of the motor have changed.

Unlike most battery chargers, the new TP-610C-ACDC features a built in power supply. This eliminates the need for an external power supply or 12 volt battery and allows you to charge your batteries using almost any AC source. If you’re flying beyond the reach of extension cords or other AC sources, the TP-610C-ACDC can also draw power from any conventional DC 11 to 18 volt DC power supply or battery. Because you can run the new TP-610C-ACDC using household power it can be used to charge your 12 volt flight battery without an external AC source. Instead of using an unreliable and dangerous wall wart type power supply for your 12 volt battery, you can finally migrate all your charging needs to a computerized charger.

Including an AC power supply in the charger design has the following  benefits:

• You don’t have to buy a separate power supply to use your Thunder Power RC charger. Most computerized chargers on the market, including the popular TP-610C require an external power supply in order to run. The new TP-610C-ACDC eliminates this requirement by including a built in adapter.
• If you don’t already have a 12 volt power supply you don’t need to run your charger off of a 12 volt battery. Most field batteries are designed to provide 5 to 10 amps for a few seconds while starting fuel airplanes. If you use your 7 amp-hour field battery to run your charger, you will deplete it after only a few cycles (assuming an average battery capacity). Many flying fields now provide 120 volt AC outlets for chargers and power supplies, so use them to power your balance charger while you use your 12 volt battery for other purposes.
• Obtaining a new TP-610C-ACDC is cheaper than getting a TP-610C balance charger and 5 amp power supply separately.

Are you looking for the ultimate 1/8 scale RC Buggy? The HPI Vorza was designed to provide a perfect driving experience, and satisfy the demands of drivers from competitive racers to the most extreme back yard bashers. No details were skipped in the Vorza’s construction. Everything from the anodized aluminum chassis to the Flux Blur ESC and 2200 Kv Tork motor was designed with high performance, outstanding quality, and RC industry standards in mind.

Power System and Radio

The HPI Vorza features a high power FLUX TORK 2200Kv brushless motor and FLUX BLUR ESC with a built in BEC and cooling fan. The ESC was designed to use lipo batteries, and will work with any battery with 4 to 6 cells (or two 2 to 3 cell batteries wired in series). The motor is built with an anodized aluminum case with a large cooling surface area. The motor is also compatible with optional bolt-on cooling fans. A 4 wheel drive shaft with high quality gears guarantees precise control at break-neck speeds.

All the electronics and radio gear have standard connectors. This allows you to install your own custom hardware (such as a 2.4 Ghz radio receiver) or even use the Vorza’s radio hardware in your other models.

Chassis, Wheels, and Servo

The HPI Vorza has an extremely tough 7075 aluminum 4 mm thick chassis and 3 adjustable differentials. This is great because it makes the chassis extremely strong, so that you can drive over the toughest roads with ease. Big bore high performance oil-filled aluminum body shocks absorb impacts from rough roads and high jumps, ensuring a smooth ride and protecting the onboard electronics. The pre-installed servo is a high torque and will steer the Vorza precisely, even at blazing speeds. The black 7 spoke wheels are a standard size, so they will fit your other RC cars and buggies.

Body and Graphics

The Vorza comes standard with beautifully done, factory applied graphics and decals. The red flame color scheme gives it a scale look that even the best hobby painters can’t match. Jet black tires and a bright red color make the Vorza eye-catching on the track. The paint job is also easy to see, so you won’t lose track of the Vorza at 80 mile an hour speeds.

Looking for the ultimate charging setup for your Vorza? We suggest:

• A Thunder Power 610C Computerized Balance Charger
• A Thunder Power 1205P 5 Amp Power Supply (need to charge faster than 5 amps? Get the 20 amp ProPeak instead)
• If you’re comfortable with soldering, you can charge your batteries with the wire harness included with the 610C and a set of Deans Ultra connectors. If you don’t have a soldering iron, or have more than one type of battery (with different connectors) to charge then we recommend the Octopus Charging Adapter.
